At the beginning of the millennium, migrants of Polynesian descent arrived in the island now known as Oahu. The influence of these original settlers in the history of the Island is very evident with the distinct Polynesian character of the Island’s cultural landscape. Exploration was ushered in the region by Europeans which began in the late 18th century.  Captain William Brown arrived on the shores of Oahu in 1794, at a place he named Brown’s Harbor, which is now known as Honolulu Harbor. During the middle of the 19th century, tourism became the major industry of Oahu and to this day remains to be the biggest attraction in Hawaii.

The temperature in Oahu stays even throughout the year, with an average of 70 to 80 degrees F.  Weather can significantly vary in different parts of the island. Southwest Oahu is generally warmer and drier than the northeast part of Oahu.  In general the summer months are the driest and winter months are considered to be the rainiest.  Peak arrival of tourist happens during the months of December through March with the last two weeks of December experiencing the heaviest influx of tourists.

Oahu, capital of Hawaii, is the third largest of the islands, after the Big Island and Maui. A unique showcase of Samoan fireknife dancing is featured in the annual World Fireknife Dance Championships in the month of May. Finally, visitors can join in the solemn commemoration of the Pearl Harbor and its attack on December 7th, 1941.
