Nassau Travel Deals and Vacation Packages

Travel deals and vacation packages to Nassau shall leave travelers entranced with the rustic Bahamian fare.  This paradise boasts of a treasure trove of great historical sites, beaches, other attractions and events.  In this idyllic setting with a mix of the modern trappings, there are plenty of adventures and fun filled activities to keep one busy for their entire stay.

Nassau is the capital of the Bahamas and is located on the Island of New Providence.  It is one of the smallest islands in the region but is home to the majority of the 300,000 Bahamians.  Paradise Island, an equally popular tourist haunt in the Bahamas, is located north of Nassau and is connected by a set of bridges.

Bahamas, including Nassau, is a melting pot of immigrants of varied races.  After experiencing near decimation of the natives after the arrival of Columbus in America, the area, known today as the Bahamas, has witnessed the influx of British, African, Greeks and Haitians to its shores. The early British settlers in Nassau arrived in the 1660s while fleeing from Bermuda resisting Anglicanism. The island was founded by the British as Charles Town. It was later renamed in 1695 in honor of William III of Orange-Nassau.  Nassau today has become a multi-ethnic society with a rich blend of the cultures of the immigrants to this Island.

Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport, the largest airport in the Bahamas, is your main gateway to Nassau and the rest of Bahamas. Most of major US airlines and several from Toronto and London have regular flights to this international airport. There are no public transports available at the airport. Taxi cabs and Shuttle Vans are lined up outside the arrivals building.  Unless airport transfer is included in your travel package, check out first the taxi fares to most hotels upon arrival at the airport.  Travelers are advised to make sure they and their driver agree on a price BEFORE they get into the cab.

You have to take on the traditional and iconic mode of transport when getting around the city.  Check out this familiar queue of Bahamian carriages outside Festival Place. These colorful carriages are a great way to see Downtown Nassau and enjoy the hustle and bustle of the historic downtown Nassau. Include to your Nassau experience a ride of the iconic jitney buses traveling around the city and into the suburban areas of Nassau. Take on #10 Jitney, the most popular Jitney bus located on Frederick Street, or in front of the McDonalds across the British Colonial Hilton. The jitney will take you for a scenic ride along the Western Esplanade, passing Fort Charlotte, Ardastra Gardens entry road, Arawak Cay’s Fish Fry as well as Breezes, Wyndham, Johnny Canoes, Nassau Beach Hotel, the Radisson as well as Sandals.
Travelers should also make a pleasant discovery of the city’s rich history and cultural landmarks.  Top picks include Parliament Building, which still has a statue of an enthroned Queen Victoria, National Art Gallery of the Bahamas along West & West Hill Streets, and the Pirate Museum.

Finally, shopping should be a more pleasant adventure in Nassau. The Straw Market, located between Bay Street and the waterfront is a bargain haven for T-shirts, handmade mats, baskets, fabrics, sea shell arts and crafts, jewelry and wood carvings.  Travelers should remember that price haggling is part of the experience when visiting this tourist shopping district.
