Maui is an island in east central Hawaii. It is located northwest of the Hawaii Island and east of Lanai and Kahoolawe islands. Mountains dominate each end of the island with a flat isthmus joining them. Maui is also home to the largest dormant volcano in the world, the Haleakala Crater.
Weather in Maui is generally mild and pleasant all year round and travelers can visit the exotic paradise just about anytime of the year. Rains may come during the latter part of the year up to March the following year. However, the burst of rain is not intense enough to spoil your fun activities in the island. Temperature ranges from about 78 F in wintertime to a high of 87 F during summer. This slight variation in temperature during the year is due to Hawaii’s proximity to the equator and the cooling effect of the surrounding ocean during the summer.
Another consideration when deciding the time to visit the island is the peak and low of tourist arrivals. Although the number of tourist visiting the island is fairly spread out throughout the year, there are times when the city witnesses a heavier schedule than normal. Times like summer vacations, spring break, Thanksgiving and Christmas are the most affected. On the other hand, the times right before or after these dates are always quiet. This makes getting reservations for activities and accommodations a lot easier.
Most of the top attractions of Maui are located along its long west coast. The northwest part is where Kaanapali and Kapalua are located, while in the southwest coast is home to Wailea resort. The Kaanapali coast boasts of long stretches of golden brown sand beaches, shopping, golf and an array of hotels. Nearby Lahanai is the island’s dining and entertainment hub. Lahanai also has many cultural attractions and landmarks mixed with a long line of boutiques.
In contrast Wailea beaches hosts to a more upscale and opulent tourist attractions. It has an array of high end shopping outlets, luxury hotels, golf courses and fabulous day spas. Travelers can still enjoy the exotic feel and ambiance that this secluded resort offers without getting a serious hit on the pocket. Visitors can take a sunset stroll along the public beach path that skirts the beach and passes through the grounds of several posh resorts. Further up north of Wailea is the busy town of Kihei, which offers many condo developments and tends to be a little more affordable than the resort areas. Moving around this resort area is very convenient with the presence of a trolley service that connects the towns with nearby shopping and attractions.
Maui no ka ‘oi, literally means-Maui is the best. That is how people are charmed by the splendor and allure of this island paradise. Indeed the best of the best of the Island of Hawaii is Maui Island.
