Lake Tahoe is a popular summer and winter vacation and recreation region nestled between the borders of California and Nevada. Reno, Nevada is the closest large city. The temperature of Lake Tahoe hits both extremes of the scale throughout the year. It is coldest in February or March at about 45 degrees F and warmest in August or September reaching close to 70 degrees F. The region is also sunny about 80% of the time, with a large portion of the rest of the time being snowstorms to replenish the slopes.
Snow starts to fall in the Sierra Nevadas between late November and Early April in extraordinary bursts of blizzards at a rate of about 20 ft a year. The snow is reflective and fluffy making it ideal for skiing. However, outdoor enthusiasts are well advised to have adequate skin protection as even the wintriest of days can cause severe sunburn. In the winter, average temperature is usually around 40 degrees F, but the slopes can often be much warmer due to the effects of direct sunlight. However, summers in Tahoe are rarely hot due to the cooling effect brought about buy the lake and trees. This ideal condition makes Lake Tahoe a perfect place for picnicking, hiking, biking, and a variety of other outdoor activities.
Though much of the fun activities usually happen in the day, the place continues to pulsate with lively entertainment up to the evening. These places also have excellent restaurants and bars for meeting other visitors and nightly show performances, Las Vegas style. These can range from front act comedy to dance parties to simple live music. Bill’s Lake Tahoe Casino is home to a Boost nightclub, and Mc P’s Pub Tahoe in South Lake Tahoe features live music every night of the year. Nearby is another pub by the name of Mulligan’s, whose drink selection has more of an Irish flavor.
