Ixtapa Travel Deals and Vacation Packages
Looking for a lovely getaway destination for families and young people alike? Check out some of the great travel deals and vacation packages to Ixtapa. A visit to this paradise island evokes a timeless appeal that would surely soothe our senses.
Ixtapa is located on the Pacific Coast of Mexico in the state of Guerrero. The island resort was built in Mexico during the 1970s and transformed what was once a land of coconuts and mangroves. It grew in the ‘70s, when developers looked to create a resort area that catered to tourists in search of a first-class experience without the overwhelming atmosphere of a large destination. Just four miles from Zihuatanejo, Ixtapa consists mostly of beaches, hotels and shopping strips. Though both island resorts are focused on tourism, both are interesting study of contrasts. Zihuatanejo is an authentic Mexican city boasting miles of exquisite beaches. High-end shops and funky markets lining the central plaza are juxtaposed with a working beach, where fishermen clean and sell their catch. Ixtapa, meanwhile, is purely a tourism-focused resort, its broad arc of beach lined with modern high-rise hotels, shops, and restaurants. Just four miles apart, both spots are family-oriented—you won’t find rowdy spring breakers—and cater to international visitors and vacationing Mexican families.
The resort town of Ixtapa dazzles visitors with its topnotch amenities and miles of beaches. Families can have clean fun while relaxing, swimming, snorkeling, diving, and fishing in its pristine waters. This tourist haven also offers great adventure while exploring caves and doing skydiving. And when you are keen on doing something really different, try playing a round of golf at a course on a natural reserve – with alligators around! Nightlife would be at the popular Carlos ‘n’ Charlie’s, Senor Frog’s and other bars and clubs.
Visitors who would opt for more luxurious accommodations should go for hotels in Ixtapa. You can easily and quickly make the 6.5 km jump into Zihuatanejo, the quintessential Mexican beach village, for a sampling of the simple life in a pueblo by the sea.
One just pack their bags and hie away to this island paradise just about anytime of the year, though it can be humid and hot during the monsoon season, locally known as “chubasco”. This happens during the months of June to September when the rain does really pour down. High and low temperatures don’t really vary much but the most ideal time to visit is between November to April with slightly cooler crisp dry mornings and warm afternoons.
While in this island resort, don’t miss to sample some of the following great attractions and sights. Take a quick run to island’s four beaches, of which Cuachalalate is the most popular, and Morro Colorado, an area on the northern side of the island with outstanding snorkeling. When looking for a family friendly beach, check out “Cats Beach” also known as Playa Las Gatas. The waters here are known for being calm, cool, and easy to swim. There are nice, secluded areas for snorkeling and scuba diving. If you want to get a fill of the rich Mexican history, check out Museo de Arqueología de la Costa Grande. The museum has a large variety of pottery and intriguing stone relics from years ago.
