Italy Travel Deals and Vacation Packages

Come and visit one of the most beautiful places in Europe.  An array of travel deals and vacation packages are offered to suit the tastes and budget of travelers.  Italy is a unique place where great history is showcased in practically everything and anything in its cities.

Italy is a Mediterranean country in the south of Europe. Its west coast is the Mediterranean Sea and the east coast is the Adriatic. France, Switzerland, Austria, and Slovenia form its northern border. Its highest point, in Monte Bianco, is 4748 meters. The mainland is a peninsula and its territory also includes the two large islands of Sicily and Sardinia.

Italy enjoys a predominantly Mediterranean climate with a colder Alpine climate in the mountains to the north and a hot and dry climate in the south. Italy’s coasts are almost pleasant all year round. Much of Italy is very hot in summer and summer is the height of vacation season. The best times to visit Italy are during spring and early fall.

Visitors to Italy are advised to make a thorough travel plan before making the trip.  This would ensure that your travel experience will be pleasant and hassle-free.  Here are some important tips when visiting Italy.

Be wary of thieves.  Falling as victim of theft could be one of the most horrible experience one might have while on vacation.  Be aware of those around you and never carry anything in a purse that you can’t live without.  Watch your luggage as well.  This cannot be overstated, as stealing is almost a profession in Italy.

Make extra copies of your passport.  Leave one at home with someone you can contact anytime and take one with you and put it someplace else other than your person.  That way you have what you need in case your passport is stolen.

When taking the taxi, find out how much they will charge you before you get into the taxi, that way there won’t be any ugly surprises afterwards.

Pack dark, unobtrusive clothing. Modest black or brown slacks, skirts or dresses with similar tops, sweaters, or a white shirt would be a wise wardrobe while in Italy.  Just accessorize with scarves or inexpensive costume jewelry as ostentatious display of expensive accessories would unduly draw attention to yourself.  Avoid wearing shirts when touring Italy.

Be sure to book in a hotel that is a 3 star or better.  Europe has a different rating system and 2 star might not be a good choice.  Do not leave money or valuables in your room.  When necessary, it would be wise for you to avail of the safe box facilities of your hotel.

Try to get a room that doesn’t face the street, as many Italian cities such as Florence can be very noisy.  Hotels usually do not have air conditioning so the windows sometimes need to be open.  Even without open windows, you will be glad of a room away from the street.

The Street Markets are the very best places to find the bargains and negotiation is welcomed and expected.   They are also great entertainment, but again – watch your purse.  Keep a close watch for leather goods and jewelry.    Watch “bargains” on gold and silver jewelry, as the assay marks may be a fake.
