Once you’ve booked that deal and you’ve landed in Atlantic City, you can kick back and relax at your hotel spa or you can put on your shoes and check out the city itself. You can take out a nice breezy stroll at the Ocean Boardwalk. Or go down and enjoy the sandy beaches. A spot of relaxing golf should be enough to entertain you but not to wear you down. Because Atlantic City only comes alive at night!
This city started out as a resort city—has always been, will always be. It began as a place to buy real estate in and build rest houses so that people can quietly relax. However, times have been difficult and by 1960s, the only tourists that visited Atlantic City were poor, elderly or both. This has not been good for the economy of the city—and not to mention its reputation. In 1976, New Jersey voters approved gambling in Atlantic City and the city was reborn.
Although many people resent this rebirth of an historical city into a gambling den, Atlantic City should disprove these allegations. It is true that many casinos have sprouted out but the city has ceased its gambling operations on 1978, in compliance with the law. Casinos were maintained mainly for entertainment and as accommodations, abandoning their gambling functions. But when gambling was fully restored in 2006, residents of Atlantic City enjoyed more than a 25% increase in their household income. One of the greatest income increases in the entire country.
Moreover, this city has not abandoned its deeper social responsibility in its quest for progress. Atlantic City is home to the New Jersey’s first wind farm. An interesting tour of the Jersey-Atlantic Wind Farm would prove to be educational as well as entertaining. The city has also maintained its pier, boardwalks and some of the buildings in order to preserve their historicity. Other cultural attractions would be the Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum, the Civil Rights Garden, the New Jersey Korean War Memorial among other places to go to.
This city is more than a destination, it’s an inspiration. So book those travel deals and vacation packages and prepare your budget. This place is guaranteed to give you more than your money’s worth!
